YoYo Joe's Review

Yo Yo Joes

Coolest Toy Store in Delaware

YoYo Joe's, right off Route 202, is the coolest toy store in Delaware.

Here's why.

I like a toy store that gets what toys are supposed to be. To me, play is a method of understanding the world by its reflection in things that you can hold. Toys are not just about practice, but about experimentation and imagination, talismans for adventure, curiosity and nobility. The best of toys aren't just entertaining, but awe inspiring, wonder-making things.

Locally owned and operated, YoYo Joe's gets that. Located off of Concord Pike near Wilmington, YoYo Joe's has space for kids to explore and play in, and a well thought out selection of both the current favorites, and some interesting things you won't find elsewhere.

YoYo Joe's has great people, an interesting selection, a super experience for the kids, and finally, they gift wrap. What more could you want in a toy store, than that?

A Toy Store Kids Can Play In

The first thing you might notice in YoYo Joe's is the size. YoYo Joe's is not a small corner store. A young child walking into the store will be overwhelmed, as there is a lot happening. They have Playmobil and Thomas, Lego and Melissa and Doug, but there's also an interesting line of ultra modern green toys, mixed with traditional favorites, like whistles and wind-up cars, dinosaurs, stuffed animals, dollhouses, and of course, yoyos.

Pirate Ship

My son and I love the pirate ship in the back of the store. Kids and grown-ups can come aboard and pretend to sail a nicely rendered pirate ship about the store. There's a wooden ship's steering wheel that you can turn and spin, and there's a slide kids can go down to "walk the plank." Role play is a part of growing up, and around the pirate ship, you'll find some role play things, like costumes, a really cool electric magic wand, and of course, pirate things, to go with the pirate ship.

Thomas Table

YoYo Joe's has a nice Thomas layout kids can play at. They have both the Thomas line of wooden railway sets and accessories, and also the Melissa and Doug compatible track and cars. There's also a cool sand table, a wooden toy workbench, a toy kitchen, and some other interesting things to see and touch for kids. This isn't like a toy section of a department store, just funneling kids through with a shopping cart.

Below, my junior reporter makes a good study of the Thomas table. He did his best, with this difficult assignment in journalism.

Toobs, Dinosaurs and Knights, and Wooden Toy Benches

YoYo Joe's has Toobs. Toobs are these cool plastic tubes with a spinning globe on top. Each tube is packed with little plastic figures. So, you can get Toobs of Dinosaurs, Toobes of Knights and more. They are inexpensive and hours of fun. If the little dinosaurs in the tubes are not sufficient for your future paleontologist, YoYo Joes also has a great selection of intricately detailed plastic dinosaurs and knights and wizards.

Science

The geek aisle in YoYo Joe's is rather good, and reminds me of hanging out in the now closed Edmund Scientic of Barrington New Jersey. There's electronics and chemistry sets, magnifying glasses, kits for building your own Stirling engine, and other sets to encourage the exploration of the factual world.

Ahoy!

YoYo Joe's gift wraps, and also operates clubs and classes for YoYos and hosts other community events. There's a lot to YoYo Joe's and I heartily recommend checking them out. Your kids won't be disappointed, and neither will you.
