Total Wine and More Review

Total Wine and More

Best Liquor Store in Delaware

Total Wine and More is the best liquor store in Delaware.

Here's why.

Total Wine, it is true, has plenty of different kinds of wine. I like to make gifts of wine to friends of mine, and Total Wine has a tremendous selection of wine. Passionate Spanish, frantic California, German, French and even New Jersey wines are all there. I have no idea about wine, and I admit, to pick a wine, I cheat. I shoot a message to an old friend Mike, who was a professional chef for almost 20 years, and say "hey, what's a good wine?" He invariably picks a winner. Total Wine and More usually has whatever he recommends, and that impresses me.

Still, if a good wine selection was all Total Wine was, I doubt I would say they were the best liquor store in Delaware. I would only rarely go there. You see, I am not a wine drinker myself, except on rare occasions. It makes me too crazy.

I prefer whiskey and whisky, my blondes and brunettes of alcohol.

I love the Scotches, adore American Bourbons, and sometimes even explore what the Irish and Canadians are up to. Every different brand is a story, and with that story, each glass becomes a sort of an adventure, and for this exploration, Total Wine is both my faithful enabler and stalwart guide.

Scottish, Irish and Canadian Whisky

Scotch at Total Wine

The above image says it all. Total Wine has a huge selection of whisky. Note that the aisle is entirely of imported whisky, primarily the best scotches. Your corner liquor store will not stock the various Laphroaigs and Balvenies, and of course, The Macallans, but Total Wine will. And Total Wine stays on top of the various reviews and movements within the industry, enough for this amateur whisky explorer, so that I can be pleasantly surprised with a newcomer. Most of the better whiskys in the aisle have review cards on them, and ratings. I've found them helpful and accurate.

American Whiskey

Total Wine Whiskey Selection

That aisle above, is all bourbons, or really, American whiskeys. What a great time for whiskey it is! So many American distillers are offering great, great sauce for the soul. If the USA is going the down the drain, Tennessee and Kentucky are at least giving we yankees something good to wash it down with. All the American offerings fall here, so yes, it is in the bourbon section, ahem, where you will find the various grades of Jack Daniels and Southern Comforts. It is in this aisle where I discovered my beloved Blanton single barrel, the brilliant Elijah Craig, and the triumphant Old Grand-Dad 114. And yes, it is here that I discovered that Jack Daniels, after all these years, is actually a pretty good drink after all.

Drinking is an exploration, and, big mazes are sometimes more fun to explore than small ones. Total Wine and More has a huge selection of wines and whiskys and whiskeys, and the bottles aren't dusty, either. If you live in Delaware, and you need wine or whiskey or whisky, Total Wine and More is the place to go.

Now, don't open that bottle till you get home. Not only is drinking and driving not cool, but whisky and whiskey are so much better in a glass, with a bit of ice.

Had to buy myself one of those!
