Seasons Pizza is the best Pizza Place in Delaware.
Now let me tell you why.
This is what I want in a pizza place. I want a pizza that tastes good. Now, for some, that might mean the sit down experience with the perfect wood fired super high end pizza where you almost have to wear a suit to eat it. That's good, for sure, but that's not me. What I want is a pizza place that is tasty, but also, well, a pizza place. I can sit down in it, if I want to, and have a pizza and a beer, but I also want them to deliver, and let me pick up. I want to have a whole bunch of stuff on the menu that I probably wouldn't cook at home. I want a pizza that my son and I can divvy up and let him pick his favorite toppings off of it, making a mess of it and ourselves while we laugh at how good life can be.
For that, my friends, the best pizza place in Delaware is by far Seasons Pizza.
Like a good street pizza in famous New York, Seasons Pizza crust is strong enough to pick up and eat a slice, but it has sauce that you can taste, cheese in the right proportions, and toppings that are just cowboy, standing on their own in tasty genius. The pepperoni, mushrooms, sausage, and even the green peppers and onions, are all first rate. Better ingredients? Papa John needs to eat a slice of Seasons, before he starts talking about what better is. And, Seasons Pizza serves good wings, a fantastic gyro, onion rings to die for, and their crab cakes are not to be denied. I especially love their special Seaso-bites, tender chunks of boneless breaded chicken, lathered in the almost magical Seasobite sauce.
There's a few Seasons pizzas around the Delaware, especially in the Wilmington and Newark areas, so, there's a good chance you can get a pizza delivered from them. I recommend them entirely. I presently haunt the Seasons on Philadelphia Pike, which probably has the friendliest staff of any pizza place I've been to, in any state. They always come through for me. And I've been to the Seasons Pizza Place on Rt 40, which also has the added genius of a well provisioned bar in the back, good eye candy and a good screen. I certainly look forward to having a beer and a slice of pie at that Seasons this summer while watching the Phillies!
Other pizza places local to Delaware deserve an honorable mention. Cafe Riveria, located in Concord Mall, makes a fantastic slice of pizza. This is a classically italian pizzeria, and it makes for a super way to round out your day. I'd take a slice of theirs over Sbarro, any day of the week. Friends of mine swear by Nick's Pizza Sublime, which offers a famously heavy slice of pie that can just put you down.
Yes, the national chains are alright. Delaware has its Pizza Huts and Papa Johns and Dominos. But, I've never been a big Pizza Hut pizza guy, Dominos wrecked itself when it tried to be more like Papa Johns, and Papa Johns, for all its merits, cannot match Seasons for either the quality of the pizza itself, diversity of menu, or wait in or eat in experience. Seasons has a big TV to watch you while you wait. Papa Johns just has a bench. What's up with that?
The bathrooms at Seasons, by the way, are spotless.
I forgot to take a picture of the desert rack at Seasons. Cheesecake, oh yes. Outstanding!
